What's in the Works

Farolito Senior Community is an 82-unit multifamily apartment community affordable to seniors 55 years of age and older. The community will feature 72 one-bedroom and 10 two-bedroom units with Universal Design features that will allow for aging-in-place and enrichment services to support resident housing stability. The design also includes a community room and adjacent on-site food pantry, fitness center, multi-purpose room, and outdoor courtyard. Situated across the street from Sol Housing's Luminaria Senior Community on Central Avenue, the exterior will feature Route 66 inspired building facades with neon lighting, new sidewalks, and fresh landscaping.

Sustainable Development

Farolito is designed to attain a high level of energy efficiency while implementing green and sustainable building measures in the construction and operation of the project. The project design incorporates energy-efficient lighting and heating/cooling equipment, a highly insulated building envelope (roof, walls, and windows), water-saving fixtures, low-water-use irrigation, and drought-tolerant plantings. Our newest communities are ENERGY STAR® certified buildings, and all of our properties include ENERGY STAR® appliances and lighting.

Affordable and Accessible Housing

The senior population in Albuquerque is growing rapidly and therefore the need for housing with Universal Design features that allow seniors to age-in-place is essential. Unfortunately, a significant number of the older population are housing cost-burdened and losing housing stability. The increase in housing costs and the current inflationary environment put pressure on those with lower and fixed incomes, which include the city's aging population. Farolito will add 82 one and two-bedroom units of housing in the East Gateway neighborhood of Albuquerque for seniors with low and moderate incomes.

Transit-Oriented

Farolito is within short walking or bicycling distance of public transit and basic services such as grocery shopping, banking, restaurants, and places of worship. The Eubank and Central ART stop is 0.1 miles from the site, providing free transportation to other areas of the city. The site will include accessible sidewalks to encourage use and engagement with nearby services and businesses. Bike storage within the building encourages multi-modal transportation to these businesses.
